Tuxedomoon is an experimental avant-garde post-punk New Wave group formed in San Francisco, California in 1977 consisting of core members, multi-instrumentalists, Blaine L. Reininger, Steven Brown and Peter Principle.
It was 27 years ago that Tuxedomoon came barreling out of the electronic music lab of San Francisco City College and began making flirtatious, whimsical, provocative, idiosyncratic music. Music which shapeshifted with beguiling ease yet brimmed with an almost underworld magick and mystical hypnotism.

Controversial but never egregious, their brand of punky, gothic postpunk experimentalism came with impossibly wide parameters - no-wave, classical, jazz, punk, funk were all simultaneously consumed and expurgated and gained them a cult following immediately.

Tuxedomoon's soundtrack to Maurice Bejart's ballet Divine is even more ambitious & austere than their previous releases. Basically Tuxedomoon coined a new form of futurism, one that worships the machine, but also draws on the past.
Check how "Grand Hotel" is a European traditional string-dance based on an electronic vocal loop, or "Ninotchka"'s constant movement between the strings/vocals (borowing from Russian folklore) and electronics, the romantic psychological soundscapes of "Queen Christina" and "Camille", the slow-motion tension of "Mata Hari" and the feverish hallucinations of "Anna Christie" & "Freudlose Gasse".
