Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso (born August 7, 1942), better known as Caetano Veloso, is a composer, singer, guitarist, writer, and political activist. He has been called "one of the greatest songwriters of the century"[1] and is sometimes considered to be the Bob Dylan of Brazil.[2] Veloso is most known for his participation in the Brazilian musical movement Tropicalismo which encompassed theatre, poetry and music in the 1960s, at the beginning of the Brazilian military dictatorship.

Veloso was born in Bahia, a state in the northeastern area of Brazil, but moved to Rio de Janeiro as a college student in the mid-1960s. Soon after the move, Veloso won a music contest and was signed to his first label. He became one of the founders of Tropicalismo with a group of several other musicians and artists—including his sister Maria Bethânia—in the same period. However the Brazilian government at the time viewed Veloso's music and political action as threatening, and he was arrested, along with fellow musician Gilberto Gil, in 1969. The two eventually were exiled from Brazil, and went to London, where they lived for two years. After he moved back to his home country, in 1972, Veloso once again began recording and performing, becoming popular outside of Brazil in the 1980s and 1990s. He has so far won five Latin Grammy Awards. He recorded his first all-English album, A Foreign Sound in 2004. The album contains many American standards.

João Bosco de Freitas Mucci, better known as João Bosco is a famous Brazilian MPB singer, guitarist, and composer.

Born on July 13, 1946, in Ponte Nova, Minas Gerais, Joäo Bosco's profession was engineering when he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where his songs where recorded by Elis Regina and were a success. He soon became admired as a virtuoso vocalist himself, and a dynamic performer. Joäo Bosco has been noted for "his singular fusion between the Arab culture, Afro-American music and the Brazilian style bossa nova," influenced by American jazz. In the introduction to his three-volume Songbook, Almir Chediak observes, "Brilliant composer João Bosco's melodic and harmonic constructions are among the most auspicious in Brazilian music."

Chico Buarque Biography

Francisco Buarque de Hollanda, 19 July 1944, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. One of Brazil's most renowned songwriters, Buarque is both immensely popular and artistically innovative. Although he emerged alongside tropicalista artists such as Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil during the turbulent 60s, he never adopted their self-conscious, pop-orientated approach or their taste for cultural cut-and-paste; instead he aligned himself with the musical tradition of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius De Moraes, while at the same time testing its limits. Initially criticized by the more outwardly radical tropicália camp, he eventually became, like them, a cornerstone of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), and through the years his songs have been recorded by countless performers. From early on, as the son of a prominent Rio family, Buarque was acquainted with artists and intellectuals; one of them was the poet and composer De Moraes, who introduced Buarque to his song "Chega De Saudade". In 1958, it became a bossa nova hit for Joao Gilberto and Buarque was hooked. During the early 60s, he studied architecture at university, but after the military coup of 1964, he dropped out and soon began his musical career.
He released his first single, "Pedro Pedreiro", in 1965 and the following year released his first album, Chico Buarque De Hollanda.

He became a national sensation, making frequent appearances on television as well as in the popular song festivals. His style recalled the great composers of earlier generations, and while his lyrics conveyed a highly poetic sensibility, they addressed common themes that had a mass appeal. However, he was not just a crowd pleaser, and starting with the production of his 1968 play Roda Viva, in which a popular singer is literally devoured by his audience, Buarque frequently dealt with subjects most artists would not touch. He spent a year in exile abroad, but returned in 1970 with his fervour undiminished. His song "Apesar De Você" (In Spite Of You) was immediately censored, a trend that continued throughout much of the decade. However, despite this constant scrutiny, he continued to challenge the status quo, earning the enduring loyalty of his fans. Aside from his many solo albums, he has composed music for numerous film and stage productions and published several novels. In 1999, Brazil's leading newsmagazine voted Chico Buarque the Century's Greatest Musician -

Since no others leap to mind, I would have to say that Joao Bosco is the greatest civil engineer turned singer/songwriter in the history of Brazilian popular music. He graduated with his degree in 1972 but since then has been concentrating on becoming one of Brazil's most formidable songwriters. For most of his early career he supplied Elis Regina with some of her best material, indeed it could be said that each one made the other's career, but since her death, Bosco has stepped into the performance limelight with a great degree of authority and has been one of the more compelling figures in Brazilian music for the last 25 years. Despite his growing popularity outside of his homeland, Bosco remains rooted in Brazil to the point of never leaving it for extended periods. So, while he remains somewhat obscure to American audiences, his music, rooted in Brazil's classic samba and bossa nova traditions, combines rock and roll, jazz and other ethnic styles in an eclectic brew that is a inventive and challenging as is he.

After years acting as composer/interpreter in several cities like Belo Horizonte MG and São Paulo SP, he had his big break when Gal Costa invited him to appear in her special for Acústico MTV in 1997. His first two albums, Por Onde Andará Stephen Fry? and Vô Imbolá, won gold records. He was also nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Pop Album category. In 1999 he was awarded Best Singer by APCA (São Paulo's association of art critics), and in 1998 won three Sharp prizes in the pop/rock category, as best song, best album, and revelation.
Songs off his first CD were chosen for soundtracks of TV Globo soap operas; "Samba do Approach" (off the second one) was included in TV Globo's series Mulheres. Baleiro has performed in Cannes (France), Montreux (Switzerland), Porto (Portugal), and Cartagena (Spain). He wrote the music of the show Mãe Gentil (Ivaldo Bertazzo), participated in the Os 5 no Palco project (with Lenine, Chico César, Paulinho Moska, and Marcos Suzano), as well as Songbook Chico Buarque, Balaio do Sampaio (a tribute to Sérgio Sampaio), and Projeto Lusofonia (Martinho da Vila). Baleiro produced the albums of Ceumar and Patrícia Amaral, and also had his video "Proibida Pra Mim" presented in the cinema.
